It’s SMART to keep your Core Strong!

It could be argued that your core muscles are the most important muscle group in the body. These muscles stabilize and support all your movements, and normal, everyday life requires almost constant use.

Your core includes more than just your abdominals; it’s a category of muscle groups in your trunk and pelvis, including lower back, hips, and glutes.

Weak core muscles can lead to lower back pain, poor posture, and subpar balance.

Lower back pain

The lower back is a frequent source of recurrent pain. When the muscles surrounding your spine are weak, there is a lack of support in the vertebrae and discs of your spine. When the lower back isn’t supported, the result could be pain in the surrounding muscles and tendons.

Poor Posture

The muscles in your the abdomen and lower back hold your spine and pelvis in place. When these muscles are weak, the body can become unstable and may assume a slouched or slumped position, which may put a strain on your muscles.

Weak balance

Core muscles work to stabilize your entire body, so when you have a weak core, it will affect the ability to balance.  Having good body balance can make it easier to move and even lead to injury prevention.

To make sure you keep strong muscles in your core, make sure your fitness routine includes a focus on strengthening these muscles 2-3 times per week.
